She was diagnosed halfway through her GCSEs with Hodgkins Lymphoma.

Yes you already know that Youth Moves swept the board with all three nominations in the Learning Hero category at the Bristol Young Heroes awards in December 2020. We aren't boasting, we are just proud of our young people. Honest.

So Shae-Ann won, and Franklin was shortlisted. But so was Rowenna, who had been on a remarkable journey, and showed tremendous courage in the face of serious illness. Here we celebrate her nomination, in the words of the person who nominated her.

"She was just brilliant, absolutely inspirational to everybody.

I met Rowenna on her first week of an NCS programme (National Citizens Service). She joined us midweek because she was having the final part of chemotherapy and she was diagnosed halfway through her GCSEs with Hodgkins Lymphoma.

As a 16-year-old going through such a big diagnosis, I couldn’t imagine being able to handle that myself let alone being so young going through GCSEs.

She was just brilliant, absolutely inspirational to everybody.

Rowena definitely deserves this award for her bravery in such a big thing in her life, and she deserves everything that she is achieving right now and more."
